When I reached fifty,
I intended to wear purple
If it so pleased me.
But I shall not age gracefully,
Prune-faced, sitting in a rocker.
I will fight it off tooth and nail;
Continue to wheel my bike
From the shed
And mount its padded seat,
Shock absorbers protecting my derrière,
And ride.
Whenever I please.
Wherever.
For I know when I can no longer
Reach the pedals to turn the chain,
And glide across the macadam
On two fat tires,
Then, and only then,
Will I be old.
So I set new goals
For distance
And speed
And continue to beat my own records,
Knowing that one day
The records will beat me.

I am not fifty (YET), but I am aheadin' in that general direction (in ONLY five years...GASP, where does ALL the time go??)! And am already sufferin' from arthritis pains....GRRR!! Stupid arthritis...Can't get around as well as I used to; therefore I write! (And work, so I can pay my bills! GRRR! LOL At least I HAVE a job; many people don't, especially IF they're older OR disabled~)
I love this; this is precious! Thanks for growing old gracefully (wish I were; my mind is like a kid, but my body is telling me otherwise..you're gettin' OLD, lady...)! May I do the same when I reach 50 in five years...
