I didn't know any heros

During WW2.

We just did out job

And prayed a lot too.

And I know at times

There was no explanation

For our survival,

Except our guardian angel.

No doubt we were blessed

To escape with just one casuality.

The Combat Engineers faced death

Every day, as did the infantry.

When you are removing mines

And well concealed booby traps,

One mistake was your last.

The enemies mind, you had to know.

And when you built the bridges,

You did not have your rifle.

The infantry protected you,

And responded to any attack.
