Ecstatic Poetry

 Long ago people

huddle under umbrellas
in crowded stations
Tin Lizzies sputter by
Horse and carriages
try to catch up
Women in long victorian gowns
And gents with waxed moustaches
familiar scents and sounds
rush through this winding tunnel
I search for my face in the crowd
Another life...
Another name...
This season
we are celebrating
ancestor gratitude week
We make tender offerings
of prayer, incense flowers
and food to our dear
departed ancestors

In a weird way
I am an ancestor too.....
An Ancient Ancestor

Me too. I'm about 10,000 lives in the brewing.
You'd think I would have learned something by now...

I have pictures from that time. All men seem to be wearing hats and even suits because it's Sunday in the pictures or another kind of celebration.

But I think of ancestors going much further back when we were hunters and gatherers in the deep dark forests, rivers and lakes of Europe. Afraid of the night with gods all around us to protect us from harm.

Your poetry certainly does go back to the origin of many religious practices mostly from Southeast Asia.
