Just a Dog
Just standing by the freeway , fast cars whizzing by,
How come he put me out here I’ll never know just why,
Animal control will get me and probably put me down,
No one will adopt an ugly vagrant hound,
Yeah sometimes, I barked a lot, but they didn’t understand,
That little Annie across the street was in danger from a man,
He watched for them to leave her out there playing in her sand,
I knew that he would grab her, I could sense his evil plan,
He walked past her every day; I knew he meant her harm,
I tried my best to warn them , and barked a loud alarm,
My barking scared her Mother, she was frightened as could be,
They just couldn’t see the danger, they thought that it was me,
Owner said he’d get rid of me , he brought me out of town,
And dropped me by this freeway with no one around,
But like a homing Pigeon he don’t know a hound like me,
Will find his way cross country It”s easy as can be,
Two days later I made it back, my owner was upset,
He wanted to save his money , but finally called the Vet,
And told him that he wanted to have me put down,
I was a dangerous animal and don’t want me around,
This was the day, that I attacked that evil sinful man ,
He had grabbed the little girl , bound her up and ran,
I was tired and foot sore, but did the best I could ,
I ran him down and tripped him and tried to bite him good.
He kicked me hard and broke my jaw, I could hardly see ,
But neighbors came a running the little girl was free.
Epilogue:
I now live across the street from where I used to be,
I guess I’m Annie’s hero , and I love her spoiling me .
