The Pool Of Tears

(Written on the occasion of the discovery of a abducted child's body in a small community in Minnesota.)

Another tear drops in the pool today,
The ripples bringing sadness on each wave.
A child is lost; a soul has been reclaimed;
Our town is shaken as we speak her name.

Another life spills out its hopes and dreams;
Abducted by the hand of fate, unkind,
Now Julie will forever be sixteen.
She's resting in the arms of Father Time.

Another headline soon will scream the news
Of battered, beaten, broken innocence.
More tears will fall for children left abused:
We turn away because it makes no sense.

Another child is out there as we speak
Whose pain and sorrow cuts just like a knife,
Who trusted; prayed; for happiness did seek;
Now robbed of peace, of innocence...of life.

Another moment with averted eyes
And a small world again is torn apart.
We must restore love that abuse denies,
Because hope needs a place in each child's heart.

Another tear now drops into this pool;
To join with those who have this same heartcry:
"Oh God please stop the hand of beasts so cruel,
And let us see the pool of tears run dry!"

The vanishing of so many children (and the abuse) is a scourge upon our "modern" society. A compelling write; a powerful plea, Eddie. Thank you. Love and peace to you.

Eddie , this is truly awesome. Yes, it does remind me of my poem The Mask. How I wish abuse would stop and the "Pool of Tears" would dry up and we could see happy smiles on the faces of our children. May God be with all of us, Eddie.

Wonderfully written poem about something that should never happen to our children. Thanks for sharing this.

This writing of yours made an image of tears from water to blood. There is nothing so tragic as to know the difference of the two. There is no pain that I know of like the innocent being punished as if guilty. Children are the air we breath and some evil just holds its breath makeing the difference so easy to see. If the pool ever does run dry it will be then that I can for the first time take a full sweet breath and smile without the knowledge of the difference.
Thank you

So very moving, Eddie. The flow and the word choice paint vivid, jagged images. So deeply provoking. Very well done.

This line is especially profound:
"Because hope needs a place in each child's heart."

I work as a Counselor/Advocate for victims of abuse, and the torment and pain I witness daily breaks my heart. It is most difficult and life altering for the children. It's for them I pray hardest.

Thanks for this write.

Eddie, This is heartbreakingly sad. Wasn't so long ago there was a child not too far from me,,less than 5 months old, found wrapped in a garbage bag thrown to the side of the roadway, like trash. Nobody ever found out who the baby was. Somebody must be having horrid nightmares,,the small community supplied a lavish funeral for a child unknown to all.
While I weep tears to help fill your pool I too pray that someday it will all be dry. Lisa
