My Street

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Monday, March 29, 2004

I had so many times
growing up
when I WISHED
someone would reach out and help me,
but... I got the ojt - street training.

My street?
Corner of tough times and tribulation.

Grew up too fast;
took care of myself;
never had that childhood,
that hope.
Just now trying to learn about hope
and faith,
and all things felt, and yet not touched;
all things known, and yet not seen.

I'll remember -- ALWAYS remember --
those who have shown true friendship.

In friendship, it's quality, not quantity,
that counts.

I've not had many... true friends,
but the few I've had
would give me their clothing,
loan me their car,
their money;
take me in,
put up with my mood swings,
let me be myself,
and forgive me
my transgressions
against them.

Few... but I treasure them, and remember them, every one.

I remember... my street.

can relate to this Jeff, life beat the crap out of me for a long time. I've been working ever since I was about 11 years old. I can't live in this preprogrammed world of programs. I think different and am very controversal. I don't judge and will not accept being judged.
My confidence comes from surviving this crazy world practically on my own, had no father, hardly a responsible mother. Yet I still live positive, work everyday, don't drink or use drugs, and I control my emotions, inso I respect and try to understand my fellow man as opposed to hating. Anyone trying to teach me a lesson better know one themselves. My confidence is strong, I earned it, I wear it and use it. sobeit. G

Jeff, I could thoroughly relate to this beautiful
writing about your past...especially being grateful
to people who "put up with my mood swings."
Have you read my articles on this? I invite you to do so.
You may find yourself among the geniuses I wrote of. No,
not your name, but part of your personality.

Man, Jeff, if it gets any more real than this, I cannot imagine it. This is the true stuff. The "realest" deal.

Well expressed and very well written!
