Reading a legal thriller by a personal acquaintance, Jerrod Daniels, called "Cunning Treatment," so that's how this popped up. It's his first novel (published in 2000), so keep that in mind, if you read it.

My, how it changes every day:

Truth --

The truth,
The whole truth, and...
Nothing but the truth,
So help me God.

But...
which truth?

Truth so destined to reach its peaks...
And... sometimes valleys.

Truth that hurts,
so deeply and...
so disarmingly;

that we often wonder: is it truth that reeks?

And...

Who among us is worthy of that which truth seeks?

Our truths are often diluted;
watered down to our political and religious liking.

Will the REAL truth please stand up...
and be counted?

Aha! At last...

Truth speaks;

though it may not say...

quite what we want to hear.

Interesting line of thought, a piercing examination of the lack of stability in our so-called 'absolutes'...! I have always found the truth to be like a pet cobra, elegant and coldly beautiful and loyal to you only so long as its needs are met, then, with little warning, it can turn on you in a heartbeat without regret. And as you lie twitching, stricken from its toxins, it curls up next to you to savor the last of your body heat.

Okay, so I've got a few issues about 'truthfulness'...

Yes, yes, Jeff...as La Belle said...it almost NEVER says what
we expect to hear or want to hear...but Truth...absolute Truth...
can save us from perishing, too.

A topic dear to my heart ;-) Nice poem, Jeff. The truth is out there, it's just getting harder to find so only those with the courage to seek it out will find it. It's unfortunate, criminal even, that so many people are willing to hide the truth from others.

No matter how deeply truth cuts..it's still the truth. Like it or not, if we choose to hear it, then we've chosen to live within it. That's still not going to stop it's sting, but it will help prepare you for the next time.
