Hollow Spectres / crossroads

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Monday, August 16, 2004

I don't understand it all;
I am not sure why fortune
has now smiled upon me,
but I know that I am at a nascent juncture;

having borne so many crosses,
sometimes in hidden solitude;
and now --

the stars align within my sight;
they evoke my passion's light;
and they foretell...
my destiny,
and know of all my strife; my plight;

they know that I am one
with time and space;
a perfect echo...
back into
a distant place,

long before the past,
and far beyond a future
any shadow...
could ever hope to cast.

Now I no longer count the days in
seconds, minutes, hours;
nor will I count the nights in anguish;
for that veil has now been lifted,
that once held sway
upon each breath I took;

consuming darkness
that seemed to
hold such untold powers;
a void into which I...
was once afraid to look.

No longer will I take the road
that seems the safest one to tread;

For I am overflowing now,
where once lived emptiness and dread;

Where north meets south and east meets west,
it now no longer matters whatever lies ahead;

For all the chapters have long been written;
and every page has since been read.

This is a great poem in more levels than one. Its expression is poetic, lyric, and it left me feeling I wish I could find the place the poet describes so well. I see a big smile in it. Thanks!

Hi Jeff I truly loved this, felt it had a deep, then, deeper ring

this forth stanza I thought was a might choppy tho -

they know that I
am one with time and space;
that I am just an echo --
a reflection...
back into
a distance place,
long before the past,
and far beyond a future
any shadow...
could ever hope to cast.

Emotive and touches deep...might be wrong but that's my feeling!!
