azuulu tsegoni
(original version)
in the distance, i have come and gone;
i have captured life's essence;
its glory,
its truth,
and its heart.
i have stumbled,
yet i have picked myself up.
i have seen life's belief,
in the eyes of me and mine.
i am but a simple man,
yet a noble man by heart.
in the distance, i have stood my ground,
and have been moved to action
for my cause;
fought for it's truth,
it's melody,
and it's wish;
which is mine.
my years have been long,
yet my tomorrows
grow ever shorter,
by time's confounding clock;
yet i have boldly smiled upon
ev'ry passing moment.
azuulu tsegoni: i am but a humble thought;
a fallow cry,
a subtle breeze of warmth;
myself... i am just a man,
reaching and striving
for a dream,
a hope,
a longing to be me.
in the distance, i have crossed
the oceans, lakes, and rivers;
and I have climbed the daunting hillside,
so that I might touch
the far-flung shining stars;
as my wish is simply this:
to hold fast
to the mem'ry of me...
the boy that i once was;
and to be humble,
and ever-grateful
for me...
the man that I am now;
the man that I have always strived to become.
