Relatively Speaking ... what makes me tick

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Tuesday, November 9, 2004

Yes, I choose action and growth over apathy and stagnation; respectively.

And, yes, I am the master of my fate; if not I,
then who will be the master of my fate? Not YOU!
You could not handle my fate!
A fate worse than death? Maybe; but... a fate as interesting as any
that ever could have been bequeathed upon this humble soul.

Always remember: Be hot or cold; for... in-between is cowardice!

Ah, yes... to understand those contradictions in your very nature...
well, at least to 'accept' those subtle and unique nuances,
without judgment, and without over-analyzing them (or you),
because... yes, I have the same tendency: to over-analyze a situation.
Oh, yes, as for you -- I accept those traits, those quirks,
those didactic idiosyncrasies;
you... the unsolvable riddle;
me... the infamous puzzle-solver;
me... your ultimate solution: a paradoxical conundrum.

Strong and passionate? Yes... I am - most definitely!
Yet, at the same time, I am also subtle, subversive and mysterious;
mysterious enough to keep your interest piqued;
piqued so high that you can't resist asking: "What's next?"
and... "Can I come along for the ride?"

Mysterious enough to make your pulse race
and make your heart pound furiously within your chest!
Passionate enough to evoke that same fervent heat within you!

Am I a soul hungering for companionship, compassion, communication?
YES! I, too, wish to be 'accepted,' just as I am:
romantic or non-romantic, mysterious or up-front,
but... always genuine; and oh, to be accepted without judgment!

Oh, don't let the suit fool you, for my passion lives deep within,
and only a select few can invoke it's full depth and breadth!

Inspiration - it knows no set time, no fixed place and no single name;
and yet it is ... everywhere!

Embrace you? Breathe freely with you?
Certainly... spew away your insipid inanities,
taunt me with your viscous vitriolic bile;
to me, those are music to my ears!

To me, every sense of who you are...
lies within those subtle epithets and rivulets
that pour from within the chasm
that has become your soul.
Everything that comes from you feeds my fires.

Sappy... oh, yes, sometimes I am. Understanding? I certainly try to be.
And where I fail to fully understand, I accept you as you are,
without prejudice; without judgment,
and without malice.

Stand with me, on the precipice of tomorrow,
and you will never want for fulfillment again!
For I will fill your heart and soul...
in ways in which you never dreamed they could be filled!

Wow, Jeff... This is a supreme testiment to your talent and ability to unwrap your soul to present your/our feelings to the reader. I felt every bit of this piece, am it even now as Soul learns to accept self and others, as we are. If we accept us in our 'now', we can learn better how to grow to accomplish the completion we all crave, whether earthly or otherwise. As the last line sums up so succinctly...

Wonderful, powerful piece.

Jeff this is an extremely interesting piece and I read it twice in an attempt to absorb it. I like the concept of complete acceptance (without prejudice and judgement)but wonder at where a line is drawn. Does one allow another to abuse your love? Does one love regardless? It sounds to me like you've known love and have a huge capacity to give it. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking poem. You are a real artist.
