Visceral Etude (with Al Swason)

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Collaboration: Jeff Mason and Albert Swanson [Thanks Al! I truly enjoyed this collab!]

Saturday, May 28, 2005

Did you alight
upon late morn

embracing scattered spectra:

a dimness
flown
about her wake

as vaunted prism
here did break...
her tantric grasp

of steamy mists adrift
there blown;

as they arose...
among their own

and to the sightless,
mindless drones
appeared the hinted arrogance
of bloated thought

that blends
about

in stilted runs,

'mid filtered
waters fought
through vivid waves
replete with knowing

in boundless waters
overflowing;

that what appears so shallow
to the few

in truth is depth
of passion
that they simply never knew!

And they shall envy us
as you
shall touch the edge
of ashen
corners; jagged - unredeemed;
and you shall
make them live anew.

A touch; a glance,
is all they'll see

and yet, for me...
alas will melt away
all the desperate pain
of pretense and of hollow lies;

dissolving sugar;
immersed; consumed;
cleansed amid the softened rain,
from unknown heights of faultless skies.

The veil is ripped...
and now released a matchless,
golden hue

and to the eyes of those
who know...
appears the entrance;

awaiting those who chose,
and beckoning them through

a haven; perfect parapet...
along a pathway, straight and true .

AL is very talented and so are you- I think together your work is even better- if you are in contact with Al, tell him I got to read his poem that he emailed me once, but in the meantime, my computer died, and I lost his email to comment on it:(

I have to say that my brain is pretty scrambled at the moment and I find the elusive quality of this write wholly mesmeric yet also somewhat beyond my ability to grasp its entire meaning... but that has not taken away from my enjoyment of the language, flow, metre and perceived intention behind your words: it's just that I must return again when I am brain-intact. Just goes to show that poetry can be felt as well as fully understood. Thank you both for this; I am always amazed by the quality of collaborations that so seamlessly seem to take place on this site. Well done - especially for a piece that is, by its very nature, quite abstract. TY Kate xx
