It All Fades In Time Anyway (song)

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Revision #8. Written from comments on a friend's blog. She was in a very sad mood.

Sunday, October 16, 2005

If there's a way
to say what I mean,

I mean what I say
when I tell you

I pray
for your love...

delivered to me
on a breeze sacredly;

you were borne on
soft wings of a dove;

And now as I lay here
I wonder...

If you'll ever

truly

be mine

Yours is the spell
that I'm under;

a love that lives
far too deep
to define.

...

But... it all fades in time anyway

And all we believe that we want here and now
Is all that we know we can't have...

It all just cascades
And we think of the trades:
the things that we gave up today...

The desire...
slowly degrades

As the dream becomes shattered
And we bleed...
spent and battered,
from the cuts
of our dull angry blades...

Reality blurs into focus
and we see...

that in time,
everything fades...

eventually...

As certain as night becomes day,
It all fades in time... anyway.

...

There once was a time
when everything mattered

But now I can't feel...
It all seems so
scattered;

My head starts to reel
as I search for a pattern
and relive each moment
that we used to steal...

And I wonder:

How did we ever

lose so much

of all the things that we held so dear?

Where is that spiritual voice
that we both
used to hear...

that told us that we...
together were free;

that showed us the way
though we were too blind to see?

...

Now the walls seem to build
and our song...

just refuses to play...

And It all fades in time anyway
All we had hoped from the past

And everything...
we thought would last,

It all fades in time anyway

And all we believe that we want here and now
Is all that we know we can't have...

It all just cascades
And we think of the trades:
the things that we gave up today...

The desire...
slowly degrades

As the dream becomes shattered
And we bleed...
spent and battered,
from the cuts
of our dull angry blades...

Reality blurs into focus
and we see...

that in time,
everything fades...

eventually...

As certain as night becomes day,
It all fades in time... anyway.

It's been a while since I've read your work Jeff and I am sorry. You have been so supportive of mine. I've had so little internet access during my travels and have only managed to find a block of time tonight to read and respond to the poetry on here.

This is beautifully written. There is nothing like love to bring joy but lost love is devastating to the soul. However, it often inspires great poetry (and songs) I hope your friend feels better soon.

Take care
Chanti

Splendid write. Thanks, for sharing. I like this...

(The dream becomes shattered
And we bleed
from our dull angry blades...

As reality comes into focus
and we see...

that in time,
it all eventually fades.)
