The Soul Trip

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees.

Thursday, October 16, 2003

WHY are we doing this dear? Why can we
NOT stay here? Why are we going on this stupid camping
TRIP
ON October 10th two-thousand-and-3, into
NATURE’s Land-Between-the-
LAKES at Piney Campgrounds? What a rip! Is it the beginning
OF a more meaningful encounter with our friends? Is there a pot of
GOLD we might find where the rainbow ends
?

MAYBE we will have learned something from our friends. After all,
NATURE will provide respite as she mends our weary souls; maybe she
HOLDS a purpose we don’t know. Maybe she holds
THE
KEY that only she can know; that might be there, though hard
TO see; And maybe she will
SATISFY us that day, and as we play the role, she'll keep
THE lifeblood safe within the
SOUL.
