Grocery shopping,
You know how it goes…
We all have needs to feed
From time to time.
Fingering the jalapenos
I looked up
Caught your glance
Amazed
As you were checking,
With delicate hands
(Was that an accident?
Or did you want me to see,
Remove doubt from my mind,
You wore no ring?)
Ever so carefully, the
Ripe cantaloupes,
One, then the next.
I thought I caught a smile,
Mercury flash,
When I moved to the cucumbers,
Admiring their firmness,
Green under auburn while
You were eying the peaches,
Delighted by the moisture
Beading on their fuzz.
(Did you just run your tongue
Over your lips?
Is my imagination taking
Complete control?)
My heart stopped for a moment
While you lingered
Considering the cherries.
Surreptitiously, I moved my cart
Closer to yours.
But you grinned,
Headed for the express lane.
