The old saw isn't necessarily true, as you have so aptly described in your poem.

"The tongue has power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." (Proverbs 18:21) Your poem tells of hurting words said and they strike as "sticks and stones" causing emotional fractures and scars. The LORD told us to forgive, whether or not the offender said "sorry" because we benefit from releasing ourselves from bitterness and free our hearts from the burden of pain. Forgiveness is unconditional and is not an option, it is a command. The key to setting ourselves free is Forgiveness -and there will not be any "bruises unseen" we need to deal with later. A good write, giving much food for thought.

Yes some are more sensitive than others and can't let it just bounce off.

There's a lot of hurts when someone breaks our hearts, but if we can forgive the person and not hold any grudges even if "sorry" was never said we let go of our anguish and negative emotion. Sometimes letting go of the negative energy is much much better than holding on to it.
