Remembering my mom tonight

A Better Life

In a small Texas town down a
country road,
stood little old shack
my mom called home.
Where dinners were served
by a lantern's light,
and hand made quilts
kept her warm at night.
A place where most
could never fore see
was my mother's home
her history.
Floors made of dirt, yet still
she was proud,
of her humble beginnings
she spoke about.
Sometimes I'd laugh and
couldn't believe,
but as I've grown older
I've come to see.
Through hard work
and devotion
faith and trust,
she created a
better life for us.

Humble beginnings have produced many magnificent persons. Well, there are limitations-I came from a very humble beginning.

For most of us, it's hard to believe that only a generation or two away, it was a hardscrabble life on dirt floors with electricity only a dream.

She'd be proud to read it.

A very touching poem. I recall growing up in Brooklyn. We lived in the projects and were considered poor. I never felt poor because Mom and Dad always provided for their son. I was able to pass on this tradition to my children. Now that they have children I watch in amazement as they provide for our grandchildren over and above what they can really afford. That's sacrifice, faith and unconditional love because they will never be able to pay it back, only forward...

Very nice thinking back poem, Kathy. I remember my grandmothers place back in the country in Arkansas. They lived off the land. Grew cotton to make a little money to buy things tha land couldn't give them. They probably drove that old mule wagon two, three times a year to little town I grew up in.

Mavis asked, "Am I a ghost again? I don't remember being a ghost, but I know I was." Do you believe in reincarnation?
