Counting The Stars One by One
I'm here in the grass on this beautiful night
looking up at the sky as the moon shines so bright
while I just try to take in this wonderful sight
as I'm counting the stars one by one.
While I'm doing my counting I stare out in space
and I check off each star at a very fast pace.
If you don't count them quickly you'll just lose your place
when you're counting the stars one by one.
You have got to be careful, it's like keeping score.
When you think that you're finished there's always some more
and you don't want to count ones you've counted before
as you're counting the stars one by one.
And you realize it's just an endless supply.
There are so many stars in the clear summer sky
that it really is probably silly to try
to count every star one by one.
You see, stars are the wishes and dreams from below
from the far distant past to just moments ago
and the fact that they're there is all we need to know,
if you’re counting the stars one by one.
And as long as the sky holds our wishes and dreams
even though it appears it may burst at the seams
rest assured they'll be there as the twilight still gleams
while you're counting those stars one by one.
