I close my eyes to love,
A need I care nothing about, a need I push away as does a moment in time that vanishes,

Something unforgettable I can not vision, it’s want hurts like a sharp blade that penetrates the hurt, taking not giving, and it’s kiss curse you to the day you die,

A once in a life time view in a mirror that’s faded into darkness, and tears can no longer comfort you from the pain, a passing moment that’s so untrue ,

Hands that hold themselves give more comfort in the night, a pillow allows you to rest on the soul of self, and again you close your eye’s to a moment in time,

Whispering words of a looking glass shows you just enough to give you hope and yet again hope fades into a mist of fog, that lets you know that control you do not posses, a vision of this is gone,

Love path has its hold, and like it you reach into darkness to feel your way through a crowded room, just to find you,

It takes it’s victim like a thief in the night, quick with no regret of feeling, and as it take you can only plead with it just once more,

It has no honor; an illusion, like an illuminated picture, no truth, but its beauty is your need and want, a captivating sight of self,

And with this you turn the page to yet another write with your pen, so that you may come back to life and remember what was and what will be again,

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
