From my short story—Seek High Ground https://akfrailey.com/short-stories/short-story-seek-high-ground/

Poem Artwork

 For My Children

Know that I have held you in my heart,

Even when miles apart.

Know that come hell or high water,

You are my sons and my daughter.

Torrential rains and hurricane winds,

My love never dim’d.

In the floods of life,

Court not strife,

Seek high ground.

For in the noble, good, and true

You’ll find what we most often seek

Me and you.

Nothing lasts, ask not the reason,

Endings come to all,

Even seasons.

May God above take you by the hand.

Be ready to leave your games—no matter how grand.

For too oft we forget,

The flood always comes around.

Seek High ground.

Yes, a mind set of seeking high ground will serve all well. For, as you say, the flood always comes around... and usually when one least expects it. Here in Oregon and California, the flood is in the form of flames, those disastrous, unpredictable fires that continue to rage on.

Wise advice from a mother more than twice--seven sons and one daughter? That is certainly a lot of tigers to tame. Maybe I'll reach the high ground when the floods come like they always do.

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani
