I found no evidence that Salvador Dali was involved in those British safety cartoons, but they were still quite surrealistic.
On my trip around the world, I suggested that we buy a Sirocco (desert wind) and drive it from Germany to Thailand, so that my Thai friend would have a new, slightly used, German VW to use or sell when he got home (he already had a Mercedes 190 sedan and a BMW that needed a new 500 cc engine). He nixed the idea because he would have had to ship the car from Bombay to Bangkok because Burma was closed at the time.
At over 100 miles an hour, dodging trans-Asian trucks, donkey carts and camels, we would've likely run across children crossing the highway at great risk. When I was in Mexico in the 1960s, kids along the highway wore high visibility orange vests as some sort of protection from being hit by high-speed cars in their rural neighborhoods.
