I guess this applies to everyone. While I've been accused of being caught up in a lie. It doesn't bother me or tie me up in a knot because, while everyone lies and I'm no exception, I reveal the truth as soon as I can and get it off my chest.
Of course, if you didn't lie, but someone thinks you did anyway, it is often difficult to change their mind(s).
Indeed, there are intricate webs of lies, many of them as briefly related here, as well as many other kinds of involving webs not yet written about. But they all tie us up in knots, as you rightfully say.
