Ronald Hull, I never suggested we turn from the news and stop reading it. Why would I suggest such a thing? We should keep informed and educate ourselves about the world around us. An open mind can be appalled at the news just as much as a closed-minded one.

I don't understand all the disdain for knowing what is going on around the world based on the best journalism that ever existed. The naysayers need to stay away from so-called news outlets that have a political ax to grind or other agenda.

Yes, the news reports death. And with the advent of everyone's smart phone becoming a video witness, we will see death that was hidden before or considered insignificant. Such is the human condition. There has always been more death than the news ever reported. I'm worried about people sticking their heads in the sand and not listening, reading or watching journalism doing videos of real events, and then forming their own conclusions.

Turning off the news is a sign of a closed mind.
