The power of the hidden

There are those
Surrounded by many
Who are truly alone
Others who are not – even with a few

The solitary figure
Has captured the imagination
In popular literature
Whether rightly or wrongly

For there are suppositions we make
About these figures
That may or may not be true
But capture the imagination no less they do

For the flighty social butterfly
We all know the type
Nothing left to the imagination
But to the solitary figure – ah- what power

For it is difficult to get to know these types
And without more information
One never a knows
Are they dealing with the misfortunate- or the truly endowed – or with both?

There is enormous power
In the hidden
Less so in many cases
Once revealed

However once revealed
Everyone can gain
When hidden
The power stays within and unshared

Do not be sure
Whence you meet someone
If they are the solitary or the group
For surfaces can be deceiving

The solitary may be part of a group
While the butterfly may be alone
But for the former nothing
Of his essence is revealed even amongst the many

For the latter
There is no distinction
Between surface and essence
Hence all is revealed

If by happenstance
You stumble across one of these rare individuals
Solitary with multiple layers
Consider yourself fortunate not to let go

One day you may become privy
To get a peak
At the depths
And thereby obtain a glimmer of the secrets of the universe
