Earlier I was reading Southern Horizons' newest poems and as I was I was writing this one.
Someone who fights for freedom
Often fighting with their own skeletons
Laughing with buddies in the cot
Digging trenches in the sand
Interrogating prisoners of war
Eventually returning to their home land
Running high on emotions
Sealing their good fortune as they kiss a loved one
Living life on the edge
In suburbia playing in the sand
Finding the little army man
Energetically laughing with their child while playing in the sand
There's much to be said for building castles in the sand. You define a soldier's life quite well. No matter where they are or what they are doing..they are doing it so they can come home to their loved ones. Good write Melissa. Lisa
