I'm proud to be an American but Canada is looking nicer and nicer

She doesn’t know where she’s going
But she’ll know when she’s there
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She doesn’t know what the future holds
She’ll figure it all out when she gets there
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She walks and walks
Not sure of why she’s still walking
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She vaguely remembers crossing state lines
Unsure of the destination
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She rests only when absolutely necessary
She eats when she can
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She walks North
But doesn’t know why
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She gets to the Canadian border
She sits and watches life go by
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She finally decides it’s time
She crosses over that unseen line
She walks in the dark to her unknown destination

She was proud to be an American
But she’s unsure of the next four years
She walked in the dark to her unknown destination

She starts a new life
On the other side of the border
She walked in the dark to her unknown destination

She still doesn’t know what the future holds
All she knows is that she now has rights
She walked in the dark to her unknown destination

She now has everything she could ever want
She’s able to have a wife
She walked in the dark to her unknown destination

Her and her wife make a good start
They have a house, two cars and a dog
They walked in the dark to their unknown destination

Hand in hand and never looked back
To the land they knew and loved
They walked in the dark to their unknown destination

They wanted to stay and fight
But the battle was already lost so
They walked in the dark to their unknown destination

I liked this poem, Melissa...
All of us are in some way or another walking in the dark to our own destinations. Always searching for some unknown path.
Interesting write!
