This is the third poem I wrote last night by flashlight.
Meow
Shuddup
Meow
Friday
Now
Friday
Momma
Friday
These are the conversations I have with the cat
The mouthy calico that learned to talk
I can’t always understand what she wants
Until I go to crawl in bed when Robin’s not here
“Meow” Is the first as she looks so sad
“Shuddup” I say as I crawl into bed
“Meow” Is the second as she ensures my attention
“Friday” I answer knowing her question
“Now” She says as I pull up the covers
“Friday” I say as I try to help her understand
“Momma” She says as I try to get comfy
“Friday” I say as I push her off the bed
Right back up she comes onto the bed
Twitching her tail and seeing red
Round two begins with an insistent “Now”
Kick her off the bed I do right here and now
The tabby’s had enough of her insistent meows
The calico races down the hall but never meows
A herd of elephants is what they are
But maybe I can fall asleep now
(Course that would mean I have to turn off the flashlight!)
(Night!)
This is simply precious. I had to put my best friend "PussCat" down a week ago after 16 wonderful years. All I had to do was look in his eyes and know what he was thinking...we had an amazing connection...we now have a new friend, little "Teddy" who is 15 weeks old, but I'm still very sad over losing PussCat...this piece reminded me so much of how darling they are as they talk to us. Thank you...Blessings, Michelle
