To become a cynic?

When Santa Clause
Has surely died
And God is merely mimic
Of desire and personal mandate,
Neighbor is object of hate
And self-gratification insensate.
Years are no measure
Of the time necessary
To set human conception
Of treasure
Whether stored in garage
China closet
Or in memory of physical pleasure.
Why is man's
Comprehension
Of value
Scaled on what's revealed
On the weights of self and thrill
Opposed to sacrifice and will
To learn
What echoes in his heart and mind
From a far distance
And defies definition
And threatens attribution
Of life to death,
To make truant
The will and right to be?
