This is one of my earliest poems. I am posting it again having been reminded of it by Mari's very moving poem "And Time Weeps". Bless you, Mari. LOL Kate xx

STONE OF BITTER GALL

At five months' pregnant,
my mother still thought
she only had gall stones;

And so my life has been:
A hardened little seed containing
all the bitter melancholy
of my mother's saddened heart.

Kept in the dark unenlightened,
my lack of emotion has troubled me;
but somehow I accepted
my predisposed state
of resilient limestone fossil.

But kind hands now have set me
in warm and fertile soil;
loving eyes have watered me
with healing salty tears.

This newly softened seed
has been born to a fresh infancy,
swaddled and nurtured in love as

Precious...

I know at last that I am wanted -

And that my life is so much more
than someone else's bitter gall.

Kate, this piece is sooo poignant, telling the story of a sad beginning, a torturous journey of confusion and unacceptance to an enlightened place of being and knowing one is wanted.

Your title STONE OF BITTER GALL is very clever and so apt. YOu do come up with unique titles.

"And that my life is so much more
than someone else's bitter gall."

Your ending is flawless in impact and meaning.

Thank you so much for sharing this, dear Kate.

Hugs,
~ Mari

Katy,
I am truly impressed at your ability to portray sincere emotion in so few words. You do have the gift.

You certainly have not held to bitterness, Katy. Admirable. I doubt your lack of emotion. I don't doubt that expression of the same comes easily. Thank you for sharing this heartfelt write...

"And so my life has been:

Oh how this rings out with truth as regards a bi-polar depressive
personality! We do indeed 'inherit' the sadness of our mothers (or father's) from birth on. Some are fortunate enough to never feel the
full-blown agonies of manic-depression, and some are successfully treated for it.
While a few brilliant others, such as yourself, use these moods to
advantage...in poetry and writings that outlast their their own lives.

I relate fully to that last line, and am glad you penned it that way.
Yes! The 'positive' ones, content in their 'callings' do indeed have
a life that is fuller than someone else's bitter gall.
Brava! And hugs to you.

stuns the senses and pierces the heart. I echo Lady A !

You are your own mother
The mothering of spirit and inner child. How intelligent and perceptive is the soul who realizes that, and does not depend on outside affirmations.
This is sensitive and wise kate :)
