I am slow and self-absorbed. I have only just learned of the tragic death of Joshua Miller, who was here at AD for a brief few weeks at the beginning of the year. An inspiring and gifted young poet and actor who was killed in a car crash ten days' ago. I am shocked and grief-stricken as his tenuous friendship with me, although fleeting and easy-going, was at the same time deep and meaningful; we had planned to meet up if ever I made it to NYC. I am full of words which, at the moment, cannot be framed... but what I want to say as a tribute to Joshua is please don't wait to tell people how much they make a difference and an impact on you in your life... I told Joshua a little, but not enough to convey the degree of encouragement that he sowed into my life at a time when I badly needed it. Tonight I leave you with his words, and not mine: Joshua, know that you have been, and always will be, loved in a special way in this little corner that remains in spite of your absence; and thankyou for what you have done for me... from the bottom of my bleeding heart... My thoughts are with your best friend, Tim, and with all your bereaved. I think of you as one of The Bard's Stratford swans, now given wings to fly... Rise up xx
TELL ME I AM YOUNG
Tell me I am young,
That I will live forever,
and you'll do just the same,
For beauty is ours,
We need no more of it,
Nor money, nor recourse, nor shame!
Tell me I am young,
Bathe me with delight,
And I will pledge to you my heart.
Will you look after it?
As I have done for you,
Or will you make me part?
Tell me I am young,
That my life will never fade,
Give me this O sweet time,
And I shall forsake all others,
Including the one whom I love,
And yes my love for verse and rhyme!

DEATH OF A COLLEGE PAL
Funereal day,
Streets lined with mourners,
Above, a bird sings.
Sweet Dave was my friend,
The life of all our parties,
May he rest in peace!
Back in my doom room,
Campus is silent today,
No more parties now.
This grief cuts deeply,
Leaves us all wanting something,
- Perhaps one last chat?

... what I wouldn't give tonight for one last chat, Josh...
Dearest Kate,
My heart goes out to you and to all who grieve his tragic death. I did not know him but because of you I have a glimpse of his precious soul. You were blessed to know him and he was blessed to have you as a friend. If anyone was able to make him feel special, you were. You sow seeds of love wherever you go. You touch hearts and fill people's lives with joy. I know because I am one of these. I have often read the reviews you've left to the work of others and smiled. You are all heart Kate and although I don't know you as much as I'd like to, I love you dearly as a precious sister.
Sending you love across the distance.

This is tragic and life is always full
of regrets but I have to agree make
yourself heard and tell people your
true feelings. I'm saddened by this
even though I did not know him. It
especially hard to say Goodbye to the
young. A heartfelt tribute Kate!
Kate... I'm speechless, stunned, in tears. I hardly knew Joshua well, but we did exchange email once at AD and his "Tell Me I Am Young" above touched me deeply given the sad news. Thank you for posting this tribute. Blessings, Dawn
All I can say, Kate, is what I think Josh would say and that would be thank you so very much for this tribute...he was a wonderful man for even the short time I had known him, both here on AD and afterwards through email...I hope he finds peace as I do for you...Ed & rufuz
Oh this is so sad, and his poetry is very beautiful and touching...thank you for posting this Kate, I remember once he did a tribute to you, am I right???
I wondered what had become of Joshua. I had enjoyed reading his work and I had missed him posting here. Thank you for this tribute to a fallen bard and for conveying this sad message to us.
Take care,
Sherry
Kate,
What you wrote was so dear and touched my heart! Bless you!
I am praying for all of Joshua's family and friends, which
includes You, of course! I did not realize he was a part of AD.
I just got back from my surgery, etc. I am very fortunate. Think I will say an extra prayer of Thanks tonight.
I did not have the pleasure of knowing Joshua's poetry. Thank you, Kate, for bringing it to my attention. Your description of him as one of the Bard's "swans" was deservedly given from the first poem I read. Certain poets resonate with us and leave a lasting imprint. My condolences to you and his family and freinds. So young-a shooting star who left his brilliance to shine among us...
Thank you Kate for posting this, I too was unaware of this tragic event. As you say, self-absorbed, to my shame. I can only offer my heartfelt sympathies and regret at the loss of such a talent. His memory will live on thanks to people like yourself and AD.
Kate, you have me in tears. I didn't know him but had read his poems when he wa here for such a brief time. I know that Ed Matlack wrote a wonderful tribute poem about him the day he was killed.
The e-book version of Sam Vaknin's "Malignant Self - Love - Narcissism Revisited". Contains the entire text: essays, frequently asked questions and
appendices regarding pathological narcissism and the Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
Stunning, moving tribute--I did not know. :( Thanks to you, his words will live on--
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
