This is a hangover (so to speak!) from last night when my server went down and I couldn't post. So much of what I read here yesterday made me think that Artist and Model could perhaps do with a little outing! :)) K xx

LAPPING TIDE

"Hold me while the tide goes down"
John Betjeman

They hitched a ride to the beach.

His canvas the sand,
the portrait on which
he signed her name
in seashells.

Her canopy the heavens,
the display of his vision
as told by evening stars
that later appeared.

Sand and sky could not hold them
as naked their horizons converged;

Only the sea could bear them up weightless,
could absorb their passion
creating rocking tides.

Night exhausted,
daybreak found them washed up,
conjoined and dreaming
at sultry low water;

Basking in shallows
of satiated love,
their passion ebbed into
the unclenching radiance
of a pink coastal dawn.

They hold me whilst the tide comes in.

This made me think of that black/white ww2 film, with thingymajig in.
Tall blonde yank bloke, chasing a married woman in the sea. Ah yes Burt Lancaster.

How do you write stuff that good? I loved the last stanza especially. And I really think you need to put all these artist/model poems in a book. Who wouldn't want to read these before bedtime every night? ;) Dawn

If one must get 'washed up,' this would truly be a lovely way to do it. Another very intriguing poem, Kate, and you write extremely well, with a hangover!

You have a way with words that radiates with the morning sun and sets with the moons glow creating a sensual delight that only an artist can create with his model.

I really love these Artist/Model poems, Kate. This one unfolds like the painting upon the canvas leaving the two entwined forever within a moment shared. Both the artist and the model have left their mark upon the future, immortal within the art itself. This is excellent writing!
Take care,
Sherry

Only you could make such a gentle, passionate work of erotica out of a visit to the beach by two. As I too love the ocean and the beach this poem rings so dear to my heart. The ocean can be a delivernce to some of the woes of their world to others like this couple it can be a rebirth of love and passion. Beautiful work Kate.
