TOUCH AND FEEL
The truth the dead know:
That men kill in order to feel -
hate, love, lust, greed;
That touch is deeply searing:
soul on soul...
Stripped down to white
of teeth and bone,
bared of the lies
of nerve and senses,
the touch of life begins -
No wonder Stephen saw
heaven opened
when wind of stones flayed his flesh
like bloody tears.
Sticks and stones I cannot feel
but the salt of seas of touch
still stings;
This is really excellent! And you've written it in the vein
of one of my absolute favorite poems of Anne Sexton.
