A punch in the gut poem, Kate of the smiling eyes. All I know is each line was a direct hit... your gut to mine. I felt it in my imagination, shuttered at my thoughts, at your words. Your poems are a 7-course meal and I take my fill, then back for 2nd's. This is crushing and mind-bending... makes me reach out, thinking I'll touch you, hoping you will let me hug you and you will talk. Those are my thoughts and they seem to have become embedded. Please be ok. katy xox
From beyond the grave
your manipulative fingers still pull my strings:
Your flesh trapped
in sepia, the arrogant
lift of your head and faint twist of thin lips
inject your eyes with judgement everytime
I come into view.
Turning you face down does nothing to loosen
your control;
and carrying you away to somewhere else increases
your heavy weight.
Only by removing
you from your hallowed space and trampling
you underfoot
can I ever hope to stand up straight;
Muddied and abused
I then put you in your rightful place,
back where you can pay me a little
honour and respect
Sister angel...Kate...this is one of my best...I am reading this again and again lured by its outstanding power and depth....have to admit that this is one of the very best I have read after a long gap...this is fantastic poetry...love n luck...this goes into my library....How do you manage to write this great write filled with emotions and power...I salute you...BHUWAN!!!
Way to go, Kate. Some people will have a hold on us until we finally decide to eliminate them entirely from our lives or at least invalidate them enough that they can be of no threat to us. It is a long and difficult road but it is by no means impossible. I think the first step is understanding or at least attempting to understand their motivating force. Once done, though it does not excuse their actions, it will allow us to understand them better. Once we have achieved that understanding, we can forgive them their weakness. Forgiving and forgetting are two very different things. We can never forget, but we can change the way we respond to those memories so that we can claim our life back. This poem is a bonfire of emotions. I could feel the confusion that raged as the memories seeped back into view. Excellent poetry!
Take care,
Sherry
Yes Kate, sounds like you are finally doing a little expunging of your demons and sounds like you are coming out the better for it.
Great write and stand tall sweet Kate.
Quite a dark and haunting rant, Kate; and quite a powerful poem.
