Sorry for all this indulgence, folks... again, this is just straight out of my college folder as I am a bit pushed for time at the mo. But, just think... in only two weeks' I shall be free as a little bird and better able to cruise around seeing what's cooking...!! :)) K xx Oh, and this is a complete reworking of an earlier poem, if it might sound a bit familiar.
BELLS AND LEMONS
Daddy?… A Peter Rabbit crouched in the vegetable patch, hiding from Mother McGregor: just the top of a cap visible and a rising swirl of tobacco smoke. Later, after draining bottles stashed behind the hay bales, he was boisterous as a pantomime dame, crowding our space with confusion. At the psychiatric hospital, the barbiturates they gave him left him slumped in his chair, a moist roll-up stuck flattened to his lower lip. Or, when more himself, he hovered between latrines, fondling women who exposed their mottled thighs beneath roughly-hitched skirts. Sunday visits ended in a café, Dad giving me sixpence for the one-armed bandit while he and Mum stared mutely into filmy cups of tea. Bells and lemons rolled around -- but never a line of three; never the same thing at once. Life was wholly unyielding.
So expresively penned as to be disturbing as you intended. Kate you're a brilliant writer in every respect. I think I've told you this time and time again but I cannot praise you enough for your exceptional work. You are truly one of the greats. Please get published and remember your old friends when you become famous. ;-)

You seem to have a never-ending treasure trove of well penned verse, Kate!
This one deserved "seeing the light of day."
It is absolutely pregnant with emotional meanings.
You've vividly captured life's tragedies in innocent prose...effectively chilling, disturbing imagery that will linger. I love the way you write, of course, I keep saying that...oh, and MORE, MORE, MORE!
Kate, I'm coming to love your prose style more than your poetry...well not quite true, as I love them both equally but I do believe your prose style is superb. You talented lady you...
prose could not be much better ... you allow the reader to feel, see and ultimately experience this occurance through your lavish imagery ... great job, Kate ...
Oh Sweet Kate this is a superb write with strangled mixed emotions drifting in and out from beginning to end.It is such a disturbing change of pace and atmospher from the last one where you slept with head on mother's lap. It is disturbing but real to life as well and that is where writing has to start. This makes me want to reach out and hold you close in my arms to tell you all is okay and I will protect my sweet Kate.
Superb prose, Kate. Yes, give us your homework any time. "Life was wholly unyelding" I'll remember that line for a long, long time. It sums it all up neatly. Good work.
I don't remember if i read this one, but how could I forget something so superbly written. You touched me deeply with this one especially the last few lines. Such disappointing reality, never quite getting the breaks...poignant...

They were not called -one arm bandits- for nothing.
This must have been painful to write.
Yet brilliantly told.
Written from a child trying to make sense of a situation.
Blimey a tanner. Can't put them in the xmas pud anymore.
Free as a little brid. Watch out for the puddy cat..
This totally washes that saying, " When life hands you lemons make lemonade." Or does it? Enjoyed this.
