Going ga-ga having spent the day viewing nursing homes... This dribbled out of my brain tuning in to one dear old lady's demented ramblings... enough to make you weep. Never mind... perhaps the sun will have his hat on tomorrow (see, what did I tell you??!!) :)) K xx

DANCE

She asked if he would like to dance with her.
He was silent –
it wasn’t something he had thought about;
wasn’t sure why or what good it would do.
Besides, it might expose her to hazards:
potential fractures or the intrusion of preying eyes.
She didn’t think she was either
glass or an endangered species,
but she married him anyway.
Years later, he became used
to her waking in the morning
looking drained, listless and with a stiff neck.
His puzzlement deepened when he discovered
she slept with a crystal slipper under her pillow.
It convinced him he had been right about the dancing
all along.

DANCE gives substance and depth to definitive moments that blossom into entire destinies filled with poignant irony and tear-stained beauty. Equally profound, unsettling, and enchanting.

This is a unique poem, I liked the struggle between life positions in one axis and competition between the lasting and ephemeral elements in another...!

Weren't we all supposed to grow up to be princesses and to be romanced and cared for throughout our life by some prince who had rescued us while mounted upon his perfect white steed? There are times when I wish I could crawl into that fantasy and hide there for a while...a day spent looking at nursing homes for my mother surely would be one of those days. I am keeping you and your mum in my prayers.
Take care,
Sherry

You can even make the smells of nursing homes go away in my mind. Such a sad, eloquent write about missed opportunities. We are having a time with our mothers right now. You're my sister in Boomer Bondage. Love, Janet

Ah my dear Kate, the nursing home scene is as surreal as this exquisitely penned verse. Rich fodder for poetic insights... Dance in whatever manner life permits!
Thoughts are with you,

Women from the beginning-->when we are called Little Women--->say about five years old, are brought up to believe in this friggin' myth of a prince! What's that about! Dancing in our dreams is a night well spent! Sleeping with a glass slipper under our pillow lets us stay in step and take the lead. Keep a dance-dream journal like you do an angry journal. Each time you want to dream dance, record the exact time, place, and incident! Dance on Pumpkin Girl! I'll be here scrubbin' the cat pizz floors for our angry wench step sisters!

sometimes when life avoids our desires, we simply dream about them ... and those who avoided fulfilling our desires feel justifed that they did because they only see and feel what they want to ...

unique write in its conceptual presentation ...

Very daring and dashing write about a subject we all know from childhood and it leaves so many questions unansweerd like what happened to the prince, did she never find the other slipper etc etc etc. Still it leaves the poor women looking like she settled though in her heart still hoped the prince would return. Interesting swett Kate interesting indeed.

Very sad and introspective Kate
My take on it, is she was right about the dancing all along, and he realised it much too late in the day !
Your perceptive writes cuts with the precision and acuteness of a surgeon's scalpel !
Take good care of yourself and your Mum !
God Bless

This ils a delicious tale of, "From whose perspective?" It is deeply wise and applicable to any life of whatever age. How dull and permanent are the "why botrher" decision producing consequences lasting for a lifetime and more! And, there you go; throwing in validation at the end, making that male klutz look as if was the wiser all along. Wrong, wrong, wrong. How much of a joyous stepping stone creek crosing life he missed, simply because he was too plain and uninvolved he feared that a dance mght open up a new life!

Thanks for giving us this one to ponder. - Bill
