OK, I know... this isn't for children and should probably be retitled "Insatiable"... but, hey, it's the best I can do as my contribution to the Feast and I probably would not have posted this at any other time. So blame it on The Day! :)) LOL Kate xx

NURSERY RHYME

“Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie”

The nest still warm, afterwards
I hold your drowned fledgling
cupped and sticky in the palm of my hand,
its little head drooped as though stillborn.

Later, heat and energy revive;
like fermenting yeast, so our love is:
bubbling, it bursts through our fingertips
as you need me like dough
and I rise, pregnant with appetite.

Resurrected, your damp chick has grown;
finding its wings it’s sky-bound again –
each time more satisfying than the last,
it grows stronger with every flight.

Well, I've read it now and must say it is like all your poetry. Afresh with new, not old, inventive phrases that bring the subject to life. Thanks for the heads up on this poem. I'll quit while I'm...never mind. Enjoyed

Very true, don't it just get better and better when you enjoy the fruits of wedded bliss with your life long soul mate. For sex with a true soul mate does have a intense spiritual quality, as well as a physical..
Enjoy the delights of magical nights. Such a perfect God given gift.
Brilliantly expressed..

Even Saint Valentine is blusing... with PRIDE, of course!
This is a lovely and natural subject in the the hands of a proven poet, and I am blushing with something akin to, envy... dammit.
So appropriate for this day and what it means to mortals... in flight!
