... I guess this is some kinda personal outpouring of feelings of being somewhat in poetic "decline" at the moment as I turn my time and attention to all things domestic: we are seeking to move house (in several different directions!) after 21 years of family life together and all within six weeks! Exciting - and yet chaotic and disorientating, too. Hence my scatty and spasmodic appearance/disappearance on/from the Den! But hey... I'll still find time to read, I'm sure - even if I don't manage to log on! Be well and have a great summer, People! :)) K xx

ECLIPSE

It’s not that I want
bright letters to
illuminate dark matter
of someone’s understanding,

or swollen emotion
to spill open
the unlaced flesh
of a road-weary heart:

it’s enough to know
that, somewhere,
there’s etched on
my stilled reflection

the word that says
I‘m a curtained star,
an obscured sight,
a naked finch sat
shivering unseen
outside an attic window;

that that’s OK
and it’s enough
right now.

Good luck with your moonlight flit...:-) swallows still flying in and out of your poems, still as graceful as a fairy tale; a curtained star seems to say so much.

We are also in the throes of moving...or will be once we complete our new home... so I can completely relate. My mind just doesn't seem to think very poetically when it is wrapped around what has to be done, packed, cleaned, bought, ordered, organized, ACK!! A frightening blur... no wonder poetic thoughts just don't seem to be occurring very frequently right now. :~)
Your poem is superb, as always... my favorite stanzas are the first and last... and it's enough right now...

Hi Kate, I read your poem,"Eclipse" I found its imagery a delight. Also it is the simple things, seemingly insignificant things in life that teach us the most about life. Best of luck with your writing. Please feel free to visit my site here in the "Den".

...Kate...shadows in your own write...find this...and everything within it...moving. ...perhaps all roads are so meant for movement...while we live and know the steps of the heart. ...,keep beating...the life you give us in your words flow in goodness.

Incredibly poignant, as always, dear Kate. I do feel a sense of resignation and, apparently, rightly so. Maybe a bit of "What the heck am I doing... and 'why' am I doing this?" Overall, as usual for your work, you assault us quite beautifully with your vivid, timely and pertinent imagery - and in such a short space, you make the reader feel the 'rush' of emtion (or... 'draining' of emotion, as it were.') There is just a certain bleakness to this, but it is so eloquently imparted as to be an incredibly enjoyable traversal of your inner emotions for the reader. I really am "seen;" I really am 'here' - I won't be eclipsed by this move; by the turbulence of change. Those are just some of the things that strike at me, when I read this - each reader may take away something slightly (or largely) different - and that is the beauty of interpretation - and of writing. -- Jeff

Tangerine velvet draped and sashed at the attic window and Sirius in view, the naked finch wishes upon the Dog Star...tuck yourself in a nip of absinthe and get packing up those hardbacks...I see the shuttlecock inside your attic trunk, Kate...take out the racket and fly us over a badminton birdie...

Lovely Lady, your words fall on welcoming ears. Who among us is not living the moment in upheaval, be it physical, emotional, or a damnable combination of it all?
Your offering is both timely and specific, and we appreciate it.
These words are true, for this weekend will see me swapping the larger house to my son and his wife, and I withdraw into a small 'cottage' on the same property. (estate? hardly!) Like you, it will be nothing short of maddening, but it's what we want. A lateral move such as ours is really tree moves; theirs, mine, and ours!
Be of cheer... it's so inexpensive in certain brands, ya' know! Love,
-- Bill

I, too, feel as though I'm in "poetic decline" - I can, therefore, relate to your words well, Kate. Times like these are, indeed, disorienting, but the observer within knows all is as it should be - for now.
