Of all Biblical stories, hers is my very favorite. I love that you are one with her. I believe we're all of us Adam's and Eve's... Choosing with a capital "C". I can't imagine life without that power. Good going, Eve! What a hard choice to make, but now you're granted the knowledge to make wiser ones, First Mother. And just think, If just Eve had eaten that proverbial apple, she'd have been cast out of the garden without her man... there would have been no other human being born. Nope, Adam was wise and well, I think heroic to join her in this much poo-pooed choice. But again, I say good going, Adam.
And then came that first baby--never before experienced on earth-- what a holy event that must have been. But hey, the good side, no male gynocologist there--and no stirrups to boot! :0) One can be grateful for many things, eh?
And on a metaphorical level, so many mistakes do become learning tools for us.
Your poem is pregnant with atmosphere-- great, near-palpable visuals, and some wonderful new word combos. I love
"skin ripe enough to split along
its crystalline-speckled spine,
button distended, puckered
as a kiss."
How could that be a mistake? There is so much beauty in what you describe - no matter how the reader chooses to interpret it - generous, sensuous, delightful, caring...
It's a shame it had to be a mistake, makes me wonder if in another time,it would have been different ah the human mind looking for excuses;-)! You are the master of provacative poems,Kate

Some think we're all just meat, but on reading your poem I think we're all fruit of the earth. Seems you are a ripe and juicy plum, Kate, ready to give forth plummy delicious poems.
And if you're truly expecting, congratulations and best of luck!
Hope you have the power to give the baby seven gifts! :-)
the body of this poem is ripened with quite vivid and intrinsically fleshy woven imagery infused with the experience of nursing knowledge ... (like that a lot) ... i have read the poem a few times and am having just a bit of a difficult time morphing into the framework of the last line ... i will reread it tomorrow ... hopefully my cloudy head will see it in a different light ...
Kate as always dear friend you take the reality of certain aspects of life and blend them with the imagination of our minds and hearts to come up with these stunners to make us think. Well done my sweet Kate.

A wet nurse would have such incredible sensations with Eve's Autumn Labour...a pregnancy of the orchard of fruition, sin watered into the harvest of forgiveness flowing pristine from the nipples upon the suckle of Eden's cradle...powerful and spiritual birth of a poem, Kate...
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
