SEWING A DREAM


Now the gates of day are closing,
the walls of night advancing,

I have need to unpick memory
right back to its first dropped stitch,

its last faded inspiration,
its inadequate wobbly seam.

Now the halls of dark approach
and corridors of light diminish,

I’ll present myself wide-eyed,
stripped to bare forgetfulness,

smooth-draped in sleep and
soft-wound in harbinger winds.
