... just floating gently back to earth having shared in your world-turning day yesterday. The excitement and immensity for me, viewing from this side of the Pond, was palpable and second only to the euphoria experienced in The Mall outside Buckingham Palace at the Wedding of Charles and Diana, which I was fortunate to be a part of back in the 1980s. I pray that this fairytale endures to firm reality. Obama is an exceptional man in every possible way. He is that very rare combination that makes for a pro-active Visionary, being both Dreamer and Realist. Of such are miracles inspired, divined, woven, executed and made. God WILL bless him and move greatly through him and his ways... He already has. Have confidence, trust and hope, America! :)) xx

Ah me... back to basics...!! Not a direct Saartjie Baartman follow-up, but a tangent of thought from her, I guess. K xx

PIERROT-PIERRETTE

Plaster sets against my face,
a roughcast of my features.

I ease away the casing,
smooth its craggy lunar surface
to a shine; observe my likeness
in quiet Venetian ripples,
mirrored inside.

Finery and fantasy painted on,
the mask portrays another self,
faithfully combines my honest
contradictions:

flamboyance elicits
the latent unseen;
stillness beneath,
the elision/ellipsis
of sounds and energy
resting.

Bonded, each to other calls
with intimate expression.

Naked and with tenderness,
other to each responds.

I was in Scotland when I saw Lady Diana marry. It was a fairytale wedding. One that made me glad that I had married my own lady. But even then, after all the pomp and majesty-the thought struck me that love is more than gold and royalty. It transcends earthly flesh and bone-a throne fit only for man-"Made a little lower than the angels"-yet Adam and Eve that paradise. Two became one.

Kate, I share your words of hope and admiration for our
new president. Would that there were no reason to mask
the image of who we are or think we are. -gene.

Good exploration of the mask theme, kate.

Revelations and concealments intermingle in this hermaphroditic ambigious beautifully-featured poem.

We remember Nefertiti's good looks through the art of sculpture and portraiture. It's no' bad being immortalized in such a fashion.

and the metaphor of a plaster cast revealing the self. especially liked:

So true are your words as most of us can dine with the richest and share with the poorest and always feel comfortable in any situation we are put in as others accept us for who we are and what we have to offer. The many face that take over. Thank you for sharing Kate.

Why do we hide behind masks...
... now just to be ourselves...
therein lies the dilemma.
Great pen, Kate!

The quote, Those that forget history are condemned to repeat it, came to mind, reading these lines, as did cautious optimism. Exquisitely, uniquely imaged, Kate; few have the power to write such massive scenes in sparse lines. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

There was a melancholy feel to this, at least for me...maybe that fear to let go of the mask instead of polishing it to a shine--the inability to ever really be free from that mask which enshrines, encases, belies...all that really lies behind it.

I have worn that plaster cast mask for several years, then I looked in the mirror one day, and said no more facades, I am me and I am proud to be me. Let people hate and fear what they will, they are only hating and fearing themselves. If they need a plaster cast to remind them of who they are, then they are so lost, they are unredeemable.

I agree with Fee in what he said too. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

As we all live wearing our own masks that we often change at will to suit our lifes and loves, this poems creativity is a subtle metaphor of who you are and how we can perceive you. Very lovely work here Sweet Kate and I enjoyed it a lot.

Molded and cast as the matrix of duality and the idiosyncrasies of masquerade and pantomine do wonders for introspection of the psyche, don't they love?...17th century legend of the tragedy of lovers in the 1924 French film Pierrot-Pierette of two clowns, a timeless couple, Pierette running hot and cold with her affections...good to see you showcase this poem in cabaret, Kate...now for some cabernet and a transvestite striptease...
