Ooooooo... I'm coming back to life, as darlin David Gilmour might say; Good Mooooooooooooooooooooornin, Neverland! :)))))) xxxx
HOPE
wakens the dawn wearing
rainbow socks and a smile;
she rekindles the hearth and
piles fruit on worm-eaten tables.
Her thin-air recipes are endless.
She yields her place in the queue,
knowing there’ll be another bus
right behind. Humming in
dark corners of classrooms,
she protects the kids from
back-breaking straws.
She’s anti-virus, anti-crap,
anti-automaton. Each iron fist
is dust beneath her rabbit’s foot,
aspirin in her holy water.
Hope pops a coin into each
desperate-emptied beer glass
clogging up the bar and
stocks the all-night chemist.
She counts her chickens well
before bed and nightly gathers more
(Reynard always thwarted
by the thickness of her skirts).
Though the house be drear and dark,
she casts Rooster a wink; he gleams
within her incandescence as
together they begin to crow.

Hummm...I like this...asleep atlast? Very energetic and substantial, this writing, as it pulls id along for the elegant--the summed and fitted life ride. You certainly squeeze the words together well like all my children into a small car, and, for once, laughing together.
Adorable, Katydid. I love the Aesopian imagery here-- if that's a word :0). Hope-- the epitome of a good mother hen, or perhaps the hen the epitome of hope-- a sort of wand-waving fairy God-hen... (here I chuckle, not cackle)... but really it is a good analogy-- a great analogy even, when referenced with Matthew 23:37, the "Hope" of Israel speaks the same analogy. And hey, if Emily uses it, it's GOT to be good! (" Hope is the thing with feathers...")
Interestingly enough, in Native American folk-lore it's the coyote who's always the trickster, and to Mexican-Americans, Zorro (the fox)-- he's the hero, though we do read enough Aesop's to know your Reynard fellow by other names. Still, I'm glad to see Hope rules the roost in all troubled times. Hope springs eternal as they say. Here's to yours, my friend: Viva la esperanza! --Charlie
Although I appreciate such top class poetry.
I can read this many ways.e.g. Coin: The Kings shilling?
Then Reynard and the fox, plus the fox n helen thingy.
I give up. this is a riddle within a riddle.
I think Chelle gets it. But not I. My happy pal, you have me befuddled.
can see her do all that stuff - hopefully she doesn't get too tired - she certainly appears to have a Spring in her step - i wonder, could Hope please sort out all annoying Anti-virus matters asap? Asprin, vit C, and rabbits tootsies aren't working so well in this neck of the woods, esp since all the mistletoe and good spirits! Happy new year Kate xx
Wonderful way to start the new year, in typical Burnside fashion: with a B A N G !!!! :) Well done, Kate; brava!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :D

hope, is perception wrapped in a blanket of warm cozy emotions -- it is a cup of piping tea the psyche sips and savors -- and your poem Kate, inspires that I attack life with great vigor, and tender care -- may peace, joy, and love be with you throughout this new year my dear friend -- Jon Michael
I love this upbeat, inspirational write. I always have Hope in my life, she is a good one. I love how you metaphorically described the feeling of Hope as if she was your mom.
Lovely words to wake to my dearest friend Kate.
I HOPE everything is good in your world.
Much peace, love, and light,

ps: a blue moon is two full moons in the same month....lol
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
