... The weather here must have been exceptionally good over the past few weeks as I can't recall having felt this way even before the schools have broken up for their long summer holidays!
SEASONAL PALETTE
The watercolour transparence
of mid-summer’s sable brushstrokes
idling the length of light-parched,
stubble-pricked fields
has been suddenly replaced
by palette-knife slappery,
the superficial paste
of an overnight rain on
heath’s dark peat sand.
Waiting for wine-bruise stains
and for soft-squeezed flesh
of over-ripened berries;
for ruby-red crushed veins of leaves
and for mossy, rippled bark
to fatten afresh rich colours
of rising winds that swell
sweatsalt-crusted lips
and breast and heart,
I’m ready now for
emollient autumn’s
thick layering of oils.

Not so fast ... you did not have enough salt on your lips yet--go back, go back. I hate to feel the longing for a season; however, sometimes, that is just what I do.
I know. I keep reminding myself how full of snow and ice I was just a few weeks ago... and yet, here I am in much the same stupor of thought.
Lots of great original word-combos here. I love that whole second grouping and "sweatsalt-crusted lips", "pallete-knife slappery", "wine-bruise stains", and "emollient autumn"... you said it well. --Charlie
WELL DONE, KATE. YES, YOU'VE DESCRIBED IT TO A 'T'...THE 'SOFTNESS' OF SUMMER WITH ITS LIGHT AND AIRY HUES DOES INSPIRE, AS ONE WAITS FOR THE ONSET OF HEAVIER AND BOLDER, AUTUMN. THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Sable on canvas lush with rich colored emollients of oil. A delicious palette it is indeed Kate. As for the rush to autumn, I cannot find the desire. Let summer burn and run while it holds the desire. I truly like your colors in this piece my dear friend. Rich and full is your rendering. May peace alove be always with you. Jon Michael

Kate, this is sooooooooooooo beautiful...the imagery paints a perfect vision in my mind. Although I'm a summer person and enjoy every minute of the heat and sun, this poem is a gift for all senses!
I can see and feel your autumn palette, but this summer, here in Connecticut is in full bloom..It has not been under 90 degrees in three weeks...I am at the beach condo my daughter and her new husband share, housesitting and dog sitting..It's quite peaceful and steamy here...Autumn, I can wait for that, I am a beach girl at heart.
Lovely poetry and such profound imagery!
Don't you DARE start talkin' about autumn yet...I finally in my whole life got used to the heat, even when I take my mile walk in the evening, I just love to sweat and I don't want to think what comes after autumn already...NO WINTER YET! e
Wonderful design and self control in your smooth poem!
It comes through without flaw in so many hues ~
and "emollient autumn's thick layering of oils" is an amazing way to end!
Blessings,
Christine

It already feels like autumn, but who cares. nip abroad for the sun, stay in old blighty for the fun.
Your poem would be in the Tate if it were in paint.
off record. So many nations have I visited, yet none beat the green beauty of old blighty. lol i fear we are in a early autumn.
but you know my love for that fireside feeling.
Top poem kiddo. lvs yer xx
