MISSING
For Georg Mateos and based on his poem:
A Ghost Outside the Window
Italicised words are his.
Rooks, rasping, rise suddenly,
like so much ash on the wind;
I meander further into/out of fog,
its leery spectre keeping distance.
The year has turned its corner
but are you ahead or behind?
Wrinkles, you say, have no memory
(being new), though tense young skin
never forgets the touch of tenderness.
I pick my way through ploughed furrows,
over corrugated remembrance of your
field standing fallow, its fruit still
clinging softly to warm vines.
There will be no ashes,
it will be left a ghost
and we cannot say
goodbye without getting lost.

peace be with you And Old Georg
My favorite stanzas are the third and fourth. I love the way that you incorporated Georg's words with your own in the third stanza and the fourth stanza reminds me of the fields of my farming youth and the smell of the soft warm earth and my toes curling in it...
You have a beautiful way of evoking wonderful memories.

I love you for this, he is dearly missed indeed!
Peace, love and light,

epitomize the enormous talent that we have come to expect
from the poets we are privileged to know here at the Den.
I am particularly moved by these lines:
I pick my way through ploughed furrows,
over corrugated remembrance of your
field standing fallow, its fruit still
clinging softly to warm vines.
