Wrote this poem after my son lost his battle with cancer.

 Son

Son, the day you were born my heart joyfully sang at such a wonderful sight!

A marvelous miracle enfolding before my very own eyes ... tiny arms embracing and loving sweet life! My arms cradled you; my lips brushed your soft cheeks and hair.

Now, words cannot describe the pain and agony that has turned my day to night.

The flood of tears cannot wash away the grief that in my heart does reside.

Comfort has fled on swift eagle’s wings, sleep has deserted me in a matter of a wink!

Nothing to take away the throbbing, piercing pain from my poor breaking heart!

Nothing to make me forget that destiny has dealt us a swift and cruel hand.

Death has pierced my heart in two, seared my very soul and turned it black!

Son, my life’s shrouded in deep, dark despair, hoping to see you, hoping you’d be there.

Seconds tick away precious moments,

bringing too much pain on its heels for me to bear.

Birds sing but their melody might as well be clanging bells!

The sun’s brilliance might as well be a glaring  light suspended in mid air!

Happiness has hidden and refuses to listen

to my silent, pleading tears.

There is only numbed pain and utter darkness  that no one with me can share.

Gone is the melody of birds; gone are the dazzling sunsets, no longer there to kiss the day goodnight!

Gone, too, is my joy, having flown to eternally rest beside my fallen knight!
