He sits daily staring out the window
Wondering who he is
Face once soft now hardened with age
Eyes fading a dimming light no longer bright
Mind not keen just total confusion
Woodsman all his life never lost
Struggling now to find his way around small room of life
Stood tall, erect, and walked so proud
Bent over now just slowly shuffling along
Loved ones come and go
They share his past with him
Offering love and support daily also
Once they leave he sits and wonders
“Who are these strangers and why do they care”
Nighttime comes, yet he still does not know as his eyes close
While his loved ones know the man he was
Husband, father, granddad who loved them all

This is a personal and touching write. So many lives have been affected by Alzheimer's - both those who suffer with it and their families & friends who endure with them. You have captured the heart-breaking essence of this disease - robbing the person of their memories.
Thank you so much for sharing this personal and compelling poem.

this is a thought provoking, moving, tender dedication to those that suffer this horrendous disease--thank you for your big, beautiful heart and for this write--it should be required reading for all.
(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :( *tears*
I've known people that say that at the very end they do return, and they were always grateful they didn't know where they'd been.
Touching write John. Lisa
