Gil Scott Heron is called the 'Father of RAP' He and the midnight Band in the 1970's were ahead of their Time,Political and Funky Music all rolled into one.He always seemd serious. And was a fearless artist in the Black power Movement. His Unique Tenor is an intereting pitch caught somewhre in a third blues tone and sounds almost Untempered. He alway's has an urgent pleading Quality to him with a sad over tone.I remember alway's being surprized when he sang Ballads as they were rounded to pefect tenderness. He was alway's right on Pitch right on Key.Brian Jackson His Keyboard Player was somwhat of a Master of Originality in his own right. The Glue that held the Magic Beauty together. After that Era and much Praise Mr.Scott fell out of sight and into obscurity, arrest's of Drug busts, and Jail time seemsd to keep repeating themselves in his life like a scratched record stuck going nowhere. It wasnt until the arrests and his weathered Face and slim frame came to newspapers looking like a man much older (suposedly from the Glass pipe)did he make a bit of a Comeback and this generation was able to up lift him, and become uplifted by his wonderful work. This is a bit of a tribute to the one and only mr. Gil Scott Heron the Father of Rap.

I remember the day’s when Gil Scott Sang about The haves an  have Nots

Ready to pull a coat an fire a shot!

The Days were ‘’Winter in America ‘’ the Time was N O W

‘’The Midnight Band’’ was a Band of Gypsy’s Runnin with Hendrix an Buddy miles for day’s on end in the hope of Revolution…

But then was then

an was is now

regressed backward to no words of LOVE

no  Progress

John an Yoko

stayed Dressed

No Musical Experiment.

Complacent request is the guest

that stayed to long

to forewarn any one who wants

Forward

or hears the song of what was

has gone …

War’s as soft on the head as TV Commercials

The Dead not even a Memory

Sociality an Poetry is Pain

With no Gain.

Shredded, Dreaded, in the arms,

and minds

of so called ‘’Fiends’’that see

A Blood an a ink Tattoo that says

 ‘’No EXIT’’

in Swirling pipe Smoke

in the dead of night.

Pussy an Crack is a hell of a Plight!

Smoke stitch the lungs together

with nothing Clever

with skull an cross bones …

Gil Scott is Not Gone

don’t feel sorry for his Youthful Scars,

his Song’s of Might

Clarity of sight.

When he saw men \\\''livin in the bottle runnin scared…\\\''

Poets

like Huey P

have the need to ease their mind to deal with the sanity of accepted insanity.

poets have to ease their mind

when events entwine their rhymes right

become wrong

Worn Rhythms out lived lack of change.

and BLACK became the NAME

C.O.I.N.T.E.LP.R.O

DO NOT PASS GO!

\\\''Movements\\\'' have no Regular Folk?

people were infiltrated experiments in Social Chaos

on the Forward

on the life line

on the be on time

On The Welfare Line.

poets have to ease their mind

When there is no Harvest of Trust

nothing to pick and watch grow

or see the Colors of the bitter taste of Victory won by the People

poets have to ease their mind

When understanding the world is a simplistic

infantile oxymoron called ‘’a Leader ‘’

Who trains Blind Society to see thing’s his way.

As People ‘’snort’’ and ‘’moo’’ along footsteps

of wasted Time of a Hateful Past.

poets have to ease their mind

When Commercialism

and Materialism is everything Beautiful.

Where people are Judged by how many arrests,

Chains, and Bars imprison one

to Self Measurement.

Don’t feel sorry for Gil Scott the poet

nor the Label

’’ the Father of RAP ‘’the First poet in the Company of the Last poets

Gil Scott is watching from a height of Understanding

from a Throne of Personal Peace

Protecting the Soul

Protecting the perception of Pain

of Slipping Gain

of Torture

of NOW

Gil has to ease his mind

Gil has to ease his mind

Because he Never owned Tears.
