Marco Polo — instead of only expressed bitterness, I see this as a description of our efforts and struggles to keep chins above the waters of this pandemic and year of extra tragic world events, even when in despair.
In blind gamelessness
We ask and ask
Anyone? Anyone out there?
Colors gather dust
How many months now
Nobody comes around
What does it matter
Someone? Anyone?
Social isn’t distanced when
Screens light up with talking faces
Or open gates of word wars
But none can stand in the light of another’s
Bright green or pitch black aura —
How are you I am fine
We lie. We lie alone and together
The courage spills out
Across slippery floors of social platforms
In pessimistically optimistic portrayals
Invented, photoshopped
Cut and pasted pieces of storyboard,
Fiction in every scene for self-belief
If for no other purpose —
Nothing lasts forever, this won’t either
Marco finds a Polo . . . eventually
If there is even one left standing —
You evoke very well here aspects of the heartlessness that is the result of this awful pandemic. So well rendered, for what is stated, what is between the lines, what is unstated but implied.
It’s all a game on these social platforms…
and everyone is playing their own game…
and the game becomes the entertainment
fir themselves and others…
and it can be meaningful or shallow and fake…
I’m sad that my Grandchildren
are growing up in these times where such things
have become normalised…and have taken the place
of true, honest friendship and honest and healing
conversation…
In reality, we only absorb what we see in others on the surface. Deep down, every one of us is fighting a battle only we know about. Some stronger people would stand up to life's challenges, but some would cry out loud as if someone, somewhere, a total stranger could help. It is okay to cry out, but only when you know someone is listening. Otherwise, it is a waste of time and breath.
The battles we fight within us belong to ourselves only, no one can tell us how to heal, except when we accept to be healed ourselves.
You can have a lot of friends, but you also can feel lonely among all your friends.
You can be alone, but you can also thank yourself for being your own best friend.
Each of us write our own stories, in our own ways, and with the modicum of talent each of us has been blessed with. Some accept what we share, some don't. Some find life and wisdom in what we share, and others only see what they don't like, or construe as phony. It's the same everywhere. I believe honesty and accuracy are the two most important elements in what I do. "Nothing lasts forever." You're correct. Nothing endures but change. "No man steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Heraclitus. Thankfully there are still some who can make us think and smile. Thanx 4 sharing. Regards...
Much to glean from this close look at the results of insecurity, be from any source, any reason, but perhaps especially for those unaware of the detrimental impact obsessive social media activity can have. I speak only from what I've read over the years by journalists and historians, for I refused from the beginning to be lured into that world. Two poetry sites are sufficient for social interplay on the net. I too have felt the impact of the phenomena of your ending 2 stanzas. Write on.

For the reasons I describe in this book, the world-wide suffering, death and extinction of humanity is very likely to occur, unless nonviolent and democratically determined radical and revolutionary personal and societal actions and changes are taken
