What's it all about, Alfie? Comes to mind.

Poem Artwork

From the NBC TV Series: This Is Us

(I have not seen the series, but the photo seemed appropriate)

What's It About?

What does it mean to live perfectly?

It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's about all the wonder around us,
as far as we can see.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.

So why are we so selfish?
So why don't we feel free?
What is it about us?
That makes us not see?

That all we behold is in our hands.
We cannot remake; remold these lands.
For they are a gift we must only treasure.
Land that we must not materially measure,
once we have destroyed its heritage,
will no longer be part of the natural page.

So when you lay blame,
just look at yourself, because…
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's about all of our future,
and what we really want to be.

Do we want to be narrow?
Do we want to pull in?
Do we want to blame everyone?
For what we call, "sin?"

So if you're looking for someone to blame,
just look at yourself before you light the flame.

It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It is about all of us,
can't you see?

It was never about you and I dear Ron but unfortunately we make it so more often then we should, we try. Soul humans that we are, often we fall short, but that's oka, he loves us anyway, thanks for the poem xo

I really "understand" what you are expressing through your verses here, Ron. There is much meaningful meaning in your words. Love and peace to you,

Regis

Yes...victimization is a rampant dis-ease in this country (and many other parts of the world). Far too many indulge in a solipsistic and narcissistic mind set, seeing nothing but the mirror image of themselves, and then refuse to take responsibility for themselves, blaming any discomfort on others. I, for one, have spent the majority of my adulthood choosing to believe we create our own reality, i.e., whatever happen to us in on us and is such a reality because it has a lesson to teach and possibly an epiphany or two to bestow. Your poem is very well stated. Now, if only more could access it.

So cool!! You are right on this one, Ron. It's a shame more people can't see it this way.

Love ya!

The New Debtors' Prison by Paul Lonardo
