Sleep Can Wait
Late nights beyond reason and logic
Exhaustion saturates every curve of my existence
Slumped over my keyboard like disfigured roadkill
But curiosity dominates and slumber shall wait
Captivated by the continuous outpour of teardrop-saturated verses
Romances sprinkled with fairy dust and set afire in their prime
Relationships ground to a bloody pulp, dropped roadside, and quickly attacked by ravens
Broken homes and broken bones and the other twisted misfortune of total strangers
Must rise at 5 am from the cloudlike tomb on which I’ll soon rest my head
The technical chatter of wearisome engineers awaits my skillful prose to bring new life
But 5 more minutes I must remain, engaged by the bounty of bubblegum rapture
Just 5 more minutes, okay maybe 10, it’s almost the weekend anyway
Jesus Christ are you spying on me?
John
