Out of Spite, Out of Plight

Tell me what’s on your mind.
Your voice gets louder and the temper begins to flare,
And it starts leaving me behind in much dreaded despair…
I’d rather begin listening – to all the truth of you that I can find.
What you tell me about my own persona –
Do you really mean what you’re saying?
And that calling and naming of my character not withstanding,
I’d rather be the mirror that gently reflects your own charisma.
Whatever I said or did in the past –
You remember it just the way it comes to your senses…
And even though that may not bode well with my own tenses,
I’d tell you what I really meant was my hope that our love will last.
Tell me what I’m doing and how that could go wrong;
You might be thinking you can read my mind…
And when you become a usual suspect in putting me in a bind,
I’d tell you I’m the one who’s ever been thinking of you for so long…
And whenever you get angry at me about anything,
You are much appreciated as you keep thriving in our dialogue;
Shutting up, closing up or taking flight only makes me choked up in my monologue,
Then I realize, staying with you is my solemn pledge to hold up everything.
