Why can't I see?

It’s no wonder the world can’t find peace when two people have trouble getting along…. can’t establish and/or maintain a steady balance … webbed in misunderstanding; miscommunication and overall have difficulty relating in the relating-ship. When relationships are at peace: peace is brought into the world. Imagine if we all really worked at this…? It would take compassionate intelligence….

Why can’t I see?
He’s not good for me

I’m blind
Can’t see the forest for the trees

Their shapes keep changing
And I am waning
A shadow of what I used to be

It’s hard to be respected
When I’m down and dejected
All my light seems hidden from thee

Another’s darkness is projected
Leaving one to feel rejected
Refused all the love given he

Yet still I fill up
Drink from a quasi sacred cup
To experience this strange and sometimes baneful mystery

So true, Suzie. We write people off in our personal lives, refuse to walk a mile in the other guy's shoes, or spend more time interfering in our neighbor's business than managing our own affairs properly then wonder why the world's a mess. And this stanza is so true also:

It’s hard to be respected
When I’m down and dejected
All my light seems hidden from thee

These are very basic lessons that we think we've learned but must relearn sometimes daily. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. ~~Nordette

Life is like a rail we ride on. It's hard to take a new track. Revenge begets revenge and the beat goes on. Once you've lived alone totally on your own, you can chose your relationships.

Love feels more glorious than anything and conversely hurts more than anything, so we have the duality that permeates all of life. It is hard enough when love is mutual, but when it is one-sided it is impossible to contend with. We must learn when to leave and be done with it. Very difficult to do. Great poem Suzie!

Love is blind...and even in it's blindness the sharpest weapon in life!!

excellent, Suzie. Having been in such a position, I would have to disagree with Andre. I think that not only do the lines 'I'm blind/Can't see the forest for the trees' belong in this poem, but they are essential to it. They are the perfect description of being overwhelmed by the many, many ways you are left feeling downtrodden and weak in a bad/abusive relationship. You try and try to no avail. I envision someone sitting on the ground in the middle of the forest with her head tucked down to hide from the many shadows of tree limbs waving above her...obviously, this spoke to me! Great work, Suzie!

My mother used to advise us during our teen years to make a list on two sides of a notebook; the pros and cons of our boyfriends. If the cons list was longer, we knew it would be better to 'end it' than suffer along...

Love is really blind. The blood to the rational part of the brain stop flowing when in love.
Sometime in our relationship we need to fight for it, communicate and confront every problem and overcome them. If the other is self, self, self then the blighter has to change..
If there is abuse. Run, run, run..
When I feel caged in, I take time out, we all need 25% of our time alone.

Sadly I think we can all be blinded by 'love'. What a little word it is for such a powerful emotion and the various reactions it can bring. Beautifully penned work. Panda :)

Can feel the pain and sorrow in this doleful write..
God very often leads us down a dark corridor, so that we can see where we have erred or strayed from his way..
Hold fast to the Rope of God

Wise words Suzie and brilliantly put to paper in this value questioning write that can be applied to so many different situations. Well done.

Sounds like "AMOR BANDIDO"... "Why can't I see?" shows it clearly.

Enjoyed the reading, except the third and fourth lines. They don't belong there.
